This painting came to me in a dream. The next morning, I got straight to work bringing her to life.
The process is as meditative as the painting itself: I pour water onto the canvas to shape a wave, then drop acrylic inks into the water and use gravity — tilting and turning the canvas — letting the pigment and water find each other until they combine perfectly. No forcing it. Just trust, movement, and surrender to the flow.
I was imagining being out in a boat in the middle of the ocean, lost in the horizon. I have family who are fishermen in Alaska, and the sea has always held a special place in my heart. So peaceful, yet so powerful. She has many layers to her — just like each one of us. Calm but powerful. Beautiful and magical all at once.
